Hawarden to Whakapapa

I just wanted to have an incredibly rude title ("wh" says "f" in Maori). We are as far east as you can go in time zones without it being yesterday so halfway round the world. The Boys in Wellington have been incredibly generous, not only putting us up but lending us their car so we set off north . We passed Whakapapa, which is a ski resort but did not turn off the road. NZ roads are very empty but mostly clearways so you can't just stop to take pictures. They have a few turnoff viewpoints with good views and we did manage to get a picture of Mount Doom (in part; there was probably cloud covering that part). We are now at Lake Taupo. The lake is the same size as Singapore which has a similar population to New Zealand so you can have some idea of the difference in population density. The Lake is famous for trout fishing, and access to ski resorts and the Geothermal area.
