Yosemite

We always intended to visit this area but after some booking difficulties we ended up in a "mini- cabin" on the edge  of Yosemite National Park.

Again the time to visit here is when you are young fit and healthy. There are good walking trails, cycling, horse-riding and rock climbing.  you can get permits for wilderness camping.
At the moment White Water Rafting is suspended as the rivers are in full spate

but that means that the waterfalls are in full flow.

It;s a funny year; there is still snow about but the daytime sun has raised temperatures to the mid 30sC. The Tiogra road is still closed in the second week in June when it is normally open by May 15th.

The waterfalls are outstanding. Strangely the best vistas, (the americans don't have view points they have vista points), the ones where every body just stands and gaze in silence with snow capped mountains in the background and dazzling waterfalls whose roar echoes  3 miles across the valley, are not the ones which look best in pictures; the overwhelming scale which makes you watch in silence is too much for the camera.
