There is no longer a streetcar named Desire, the route to the Elysian Fields having been replaced by a bus many years ago, but the old streetcars survived Katrina and are still running.We had wanted to go to the St Louis Cemetery No 1 where the trip scene in Easy Rider was filmed but visits are now limited to relatives of the decadents and pre-booked organised tours because of vandalism. Surprisingly this is not caused by Easy Rider fans coming to trip but by voodoo followers visiting the grave of Marie Laveau the Voodoo Queen.
Instead we took the St Charles trolley
to Lafayette Cemetery No 1 which dates from 1833 and has much the same ambience and also was just over the road from a bookshop I wanted to visit.
