Shanghai Museum has a good building although not as good as Suzhou but the contents are of national museum standard. The standout collections are the bronzes and particularly the ceramics but I'll start my tour on the top floor with the Ming and Ching furniture, jade and the minority communities exhibits. It was interesting to see that Taiwan was included as a minority community through two canoes and after visiting all those gardens in Suzhou we probably did not need the mockup of a Ming study. Otherwise I found the labelling of the minorities exhibition insufficient as although it was in english as well as chinese it described them as by which province they were from and my chinese geography wasn't up to it. Maps would have helped.
We spent the whole day there helped by the restaurant with cheap set meals with limited choice, english menus and orientated towards the western palate, full marks.
