Suzhou Museum is now housed in a most wonderful building designed by I M Pei, an american chinese whose family hails from Suzhou and designer of the Louvre pyramid. The building is next to the most famous garden in the city and whilst the whole building is wonderful its garden is a triumph mimicking not the classical gardens of the town but the earlier Taoist gardens in a very postmodern way.
Of the contents I was most taken with neolithic pottery from 6000-2000BCE which i would gladly have in my living room today and a bronze vase from 700BCE.
