Quilts at the Younge



A sliver of land south of Selma surrounded on 3 sides by the Alabama River, Gee's Bend has been isolated by geography, politics and social circumstances which have enabled a continuity of artistic tradition. That has flowered in its quilt-making which was a large part of the African South exhibition.








An arts project taught them how to make screen-prints which they could relate to their quilts.
