The Getty Center on a hill outside LA charges for parking but not for entry. "Where else can you get a full days entertainment for free?" said the docent. Her face dropped when I said "The National Gallery".
It is one of those American museums with huge buildings of separate pavilions but relatively few exhibits for the space. We concentrated on the European renaissance and post-1700 displays. There are no modern art exhibits but quite a few modern sculptures.

Hiding beneath the rose pillars is a Robert Irwin maze.
My favourite is the Gentile de Fabriano Coronation of the Virgin but there were rather a lot of other good pictures

I was interested to see this bust of Harriet Seacole as I had not seen a representation of her before
and I couldn't understand how Rodin got away with this carving of Christ and Mary Magdelane without being charged with Blasphemy.
You can just imagine Mary Whitehouse taking a pick-axe to it.
