Red Rock Country and Sedona

Whenever speaking to somebody about our route they would go all soft and droopy and Say "Sedona, Sedona's lovely". The guidebook describes it as a place of great spirituality as well as beauty attracting New Age types, so we were expecting a sort of Western Glastonbury.
There are new age hot yoga and massage courses and holistic veterinary surgeons but is is actually more of a Western Lake District without the Lakes. The scenery is stunning. Eroded sandstone buffs and mesas.

Sedona is in the heart of it and sadly is building over the valleys so it is more like the strip between Waterhead and Ambleside on a summer weekend. The population increased by half between the 2000 and 2010  and is thought to have increased by the same amount again by 2015. Still really it is a landscape to get out into, hiking, cycling, riding, or rafting, so being somewhat old for these activities we only stayed a night.
