U-Drop Inn and Conoco Tower Station, Shamrock

Few buildings were built in Texas in the Great Depression but this one built in 1936 at the junction of Route 66 and Highway 83 is an Art Deco corker.

I had just finished taking this photo when this car pulled up and parked.

I thought Beloved might be going to have a heart attack. The young couple who owned it were travelling from Arizona to Detroit.
The building now belongs to the City of Shamrock who run it as a tourist information centre. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable and helpful but they give you free coffee. Beloved bought the T-shirt. The station has a few classic cars of its own and the juxtaposition with the new Tesla car charging points is interesting.
