Named for President Herbert Hoover not J Edgar this was FDR's big job creation project in the depression although it had been signed off by President Coolidge in 1928. Thousands moved here to build it and 112 died.
Being built in the 1930s it has a pleasing art deco design and of course the scale is tremendous. The best place to see it is the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. (M C was the senator when the bridge was built. PT was a local "hero"; he served in Afghanistan where he was killed by "friendly fire" in 2004, a fact which was initially the subject of a cover-up).
It was a very hot day, we were anxious to get to Vegas, you had to climb a lot of steps - no picture.
